Tinian

Tinian is an island 3 miles south of Saipan. It has a rich production of sugar cane in the early days. Now, it is a quite and beautiful tourists paradise. The first nuclear weapon was dropped on Hiroshima from the south end of this island during World War II which made the Japanese surrendered.  The Chinese started to invest in casinos and hotels here about 5 years ago. There are many tourists from Southeast Asia, Japan, and Korea. People can come from Saipan to Tinian via airplane or ferry.

Climate: Tropical, rainy season is May to November. Dry and windy rest of the year.

Religion: 80% Roman Catholics

Population: approx. 2,000

Target: Mandarin speaking Chinese. Some speak Cantonese. Many of them can speak fluent English and some Japanese.

Background: About 400 Chinese are from China. 300 of them work in hotels. Some of them are in management level, while others work as receptionist and janitor. The rest work in farms.

Opportunity: Chinese working in hotels usually have 3 shifts working 8 hours a shift. These workers have lots of free time with not much entertainment except gambling. Most of them are well educated and they love to read and enjoy a good conversation. There are more than twenty people accept Christ since CCM first visited there.
