South Korea

Location: Eastern Asia, southern half of the Korean Peninsula bordering the Sea of Japan and the Yellow Sea

Capital: Seoul

Language: Korean

Religion: Christian 31.7%, Buddhist 23.9%

Climate: temperate, with rainfall heavier in summer than winter

Population: 48,324,000 (July, 2002)

Chinese Population: Approximately 20,000. 15,000 are workers from Mainland China and foreign students.

Chinese: As one of the Four Dragons of East Asia, South Korea has achieved an incredible record of growth. It also attracts thousands of workers from Mainland China. It now has 15,000 to 20,000 Chinese contract workers. They mainly lived in Seoul, Su-Won, Taaegu, An San, and Busan City. There are about 4,000 foreign students in Seoul.

Chinese Christians: There are 7 Chinese churches with about 800 members. Most of the youth are 4th or 5th generation Chinese. Some Korean churches want to reach out to these Chinese workers by trying to start a Chinese worship. There are 30 to 200 Chinese joining the worship service but lack of pastoral care from a Chinese speaking minister or missionary.

Prayer Request:
1. Pray for the needs of the Chinese workers there. May they have the chance to listen to know Christ while they are in the foreign land.
2. May God leads missionaries to this field to help in preaching and caring.
3. Thanks God that the Koreans love the Chinese and they have the motivation to help the Chinese. May God open up the path and have the Korean churches work together with Chinese churches to develop the Chinese mission ministries.
