Miu Yu was a social worker in Hong Kong before joining the missionary team. Her desire (changed from “wish”) in high school was to help the needy. As a social worker for more than 10 years, she worked from the frontline services to background administration and began to understand the limitations of a social worker. During her service, she found she could only help people with their physical needs but not their spiritual needs. She thinks helping people with their spiritual life is more important.

After recovering from cancer, many friends introduced cancer patients to her, in hope of helping and caring for them by her own experience. But she found she was not capable of fulfilling this expectation. So she looked for guidance from God on her ministry direction.

Miu Yu went to Macau twice for short- term missions and had two years' training in mission work. Knowing Macau people are not fully open to the gospel message, she saw counseling could be a good way to help them experience God's grace through the healing process. She prayed for assurance of this path to make sure it would not be an alternative to escape her current job.

In January 2005, Miu Yu decided with a peaceful heart to be a missionary. During the application process, her mother became a Christian to her great excitement. She thanks God for His mercy she can go to Macau with no more worries. The support from fellow believers also encourages her a lot.

God's promise really enlightens and encourages her, "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go" (Joshua 1:9). May God use her to bless the people in Macau and may His name be glorified! Amen.
